Power of one: Casa de Amparo
Casa De Amparo
For the Power of One project, we partnered with Casa de Amparo; an organization in San Marcos which is recognized as a major force in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect around San Diego County. They provide support for these children and young parents through programs such as counseling, young parent network, residential and/or transitional services, and family visitation.
As a group, we met with the organization to see what need we could fulfill for them. In the end we decide to build a renewed ‘store’. In Casa de Amparo, for being good, kids get rewarded with Casa Bucks which is similar to monopoly money and with it, they can buy small items such as headphones, socks, makeup, etc. However, the problem with the shelf was that it was small and narrow and every time someone wanted to buy something, they had to open the whole shelf and expose all of the items. Along with that, kids would not be able to see what was in there until they took out the boxes and dig around. So we decided to create a whole new shelf. One that was larger and wider and had a clear cover so they could see the items before they decide to spend it. Along with the shelf, we fundraised to be able to buy items to add into the shelf. That way, they had more stock and variety.
Throughout this project we learned that people can make a change. It’s doesn’t matter if it’s a big gesture or a small gesture you can make a change and improve someone’s life style. While working on this project as a group we learned about the work Casa De Amparo does. We also learned about domestic violence and the effect it has in children. We learned that a child doesn’t choose to be a witness or a victim of domestic violence, as a society we can prevent this top

Power, Privilege and the Purse
For this project, we learned about what is the America dream and if it's still alive. Also the inequality in the world and who is privileged and who isn't. In math, we calculated our budget as a adult out of college. Including budgeting, taxes, investments, savings and debt.
I was put in the media group and my role of this project was to create a video of the whole project. Starting from the very beginning where I interviewed the students and ask if they knew what the American Dream was or not. If so, I would continue with, "Do you think it's still alive today or not." Then after everyone was interviewed, students then learned all about these topics on there groups. For the next couple weeks, students worked on their exhibition projects. Throughout this time, I kept interviewing them and asking questions about their topics. I really tried to get them to open up about their topic and find out the reasoning behind their background and why they chose it. I think I did a good job at that and the footage of interviews turned out really well. Then later at Exhibition, I had multiple filmers collecting footage for the video. I ran into couple challenges with out team members, where they wanted me to do something but I had a lot of work to do on my own project and I had to decide my priorities and figure out what was most important. I enjoyed hearing the stories of the students that actually cared about their topics and being able to learn the mistakes and bad things they were talking about.
Math:
I learned a lot about where I would go and what I would do after college with my college degree. It was very important for me to see what I would be able to afford and what I can do with the money. Also I didn't realize how much work it is having to calculate all this money. Also where to put your money and when and where to save it. Mathematical modeling would help by using graphs and to see if it has exponential growth or not. Plus it can help you decide wether or not you will save or loose money from important decisions.
We learned about exponential growth and help us figure out the compound interest and taxes.
I understand how to do Logarithms but not really the purpose of them besides helping you solve exponential problems.
Statistical Problem Solving Process is ask questions, make a plan, gather data, interpret data, and problem solve. I used this process when
Through this project I learned
We also learned about inequalities in our society and the different circumstances every single human in this world is in. My eyes were open to the huge problems in the world and how many they are. Between education and learning to the wars that are going on.
After what was all said and done, my perspective didn't change to much throughout the project but I did learn a lot more that would backup my opinions and some information that would argue against my opinion. I gained my level of respect for others in the work and sometimes you don't know how bad of problems people are going through also I realized how privileged I am and I'm thankful for that.

Through this project I learned
- What statistical concepts, vocabulary and measurements did you learn in this project?
- How did you use what you learned to better understand the societal issues that were discussed in the project?

Project dESCRIPTION: My Name, my story
This year I will challenge myself to think outside of my own life and my own life experiences. Throughout the year, we will engage in many difficult conversations about complex subject matter. We will analyze multiple perspectives throughout history and in society today. The success of our conversations will depend on your willingness to listen and open your mind to your peers’ perspectives. We must trust one another and respect our ideas and values in order to expand our thinking. During this introductory project, the goal is for you to better understand your own story and how it has shaped who you are today. You will share your story with the class so that we can begin to build a sense of belongingness and community that we will need as a foundation for all future project work.
I chose to talk about my hobby that I would like to pursue as a career. I narrated a story about one afternoon it Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I used this exsperience to reflect my love of filming. I included actual video that I took with my drone that afternoon and some other footage from that trip. Then I showed footage that was recorded by professional filmers to show how much I will need to improve to make it to that level but I'm defaintly up for the challenge.
